Just about every eating disorder carries with it a different set of risks and stigmas. And while pica is not always super harmful to sufferers, it is hard to explain to others, leading victims to feel isolated in their struggle.
Pica causes those afflicted with disorder to eat things that aren’t typically considered food.
It can be extremely risky for sufferers because they only want to eat things that aren’t easily digestible…or simply can’t be digested at all. Below are just a few of the things that people are addicted to eating.
1. Dryer sheets — Pica sufferers claim they have a tangy, spicy flavor to them.

2. Chalk — This is one of the most common cravings of pica sufferers.

3. Ashes — TLC’s My Strange Addiction My Strange Addiction introduced viewers to a woman named Casie who decided to eat the ashes of her deceased husband.

4. Cigarette ash — Not as extreme as a loved one’s ashes, but cigarette ashes are consumed by pica sufferers because of its gritty taste and flavor.

5. Toilet paper — Toilet paper eating is so common that sufferers actually have standards of where the best toilet paper to be consumed is. The consensus is that movie theaters have top-notch TP.

6. Rocks — If you think this would break your teeth, you’re not exactly wrong. But some people just enjoy the taste and consistency of rocks in their mouths.

7. Glass — Not just for circus performers anymore, some people who suffer from pica prefer to eat glass. Apparently it has a taste similar to rock candy except…you know…it’s a lot sharper.

8. Couch cushions — Some people are so addicted to eating the cushions in couches and recliners that they go through several pieces of furniture a year.
